But why u want to install apache 1.3x when apache 2.0 is available.

Steps to compile apache13 and php can also be found in php manual under installation.

Because the server i run my site on is apache 1.3 so it makes sense to develop my site with the same server version as the host who is running it?

I, too, have never compiled anything, and am looking for the basic steps to compile PHP with all the extensions I want as a CGI to be run on a shared Apache server. However, I can't find that information in the PHP manual.

Maybe, but I was looking in the right spot. I have used the manual many times in my adventures in PHP. I'm working off a shared server, and am wanting to use extensions that my host will not support. So, for the first time, I'm looking to compile as a CGI, which, admittantly, I have no idea where to begin.
