strange apache problem ( :-) )
hi all,
on winxp i've had apache 2.0.45, now .46 with php 4.3.2 and latest mysql running fine as localhost for pre-publish testing without a noticable (to me) reason, apache has stopped working in a strange way; - service still runs - my apache-conf server test says syntax is fine - the apache service is using ALL available CPU up to 100% (i think this is related to the problem, i don't think thats normal, correct?) - my error log says; [Wed Jul 09 09:46:43 2003] [notice] Parent: Created child process 2620 [Wed Jul 09 09:46:43 2003] [notice] Child 2620: Child process is running [Wed Jul 09 09:46:43 2003] [notice] Child 2620: Acquired the start mutex. [Wed Jul 09 09:46:43 2003] [notice] Child 2620: Starting 250 worker threads. is 250 worker threads normal? is that whats using all my cpu? when i try http://localhost/ it just never gets there, The page cannot be displayed any help, advice, pointers, etc would be greatly appreciated! |

I believe there are known issues with php and apache 2, though I'd think that'd affect only php apps and not your basic apache functionality. I think also that you can choose to run apache 2 threaded or non-threaded. You might check into this and see if fine-tuning your config solves the problem. I presume you've done a good old fashioned restart of apache.

What do you set in your httpd.conf for MaxRequestsPerChild?
Since you are on a Win Machine this should be set to 0.

laidbak is right -- otherwise the apache childs could continue to re-launch themselves if an error occours (configuration problem, had it happen with my apache server... recompiled and reinstalled it on my linux machine) which could also explain why your cpu processes are running at %100 ... try uninstalling it and putting a copy of apache 1.3.xx on with php and see if you can get that to work

Hi Guys,
Here is what I found. The thing thats getting me is that I don't beleive I ever changed this from when it was working fine. <IfModule mpm_winnt.c> # # Server-Pool Size Regulation (MPM specific) # # WinNT MPM # ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process # MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves ThreadsPerChild 250 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 </IfModule> ref dhouston and php-apache 2 issues, I've had this running great for months so I know it should work ![]() anyone know how to set apache for unthreaded? how can I figure out what all the activity is? I reset it to 1, as I got a message that "1" was the minimum required and it had no change. |
